My love of reading and writing began when I was growing up in a small town in Ohio. Books not only described life as it was but invited me to imagine life as it could be. As soon as I finished one book, I began reading another-a habit I continue. Like so many children, my favorite books were those that seemed as if the author spoke directly to me and inexplicably had a window into my private feelings and experiences.

My love of books, story, and words matured into a passionate commitment to write. I am always writing- either poetry or stories for children.

When Sarah Laughed was inspired by the sentence “Sarah laughed” in the Bible story about Abraham and Sarah. I felt there was more to the story of Sarah’s laughter than was suggested in the Bible. When Sarah Laughed is a light-hearted retelling that fills out the characters of Abraham and Sarah with warmth and humor and speaks to children in a language they can understand.

Author Visits

I want to share my excitement about writing and reading with children. Working with children in schools or other venues I want to break down the myth that writing is hard. As active participants in my visit, students can experience how to “catch an idea,” and enjoy developing it into a story.

Some topics for author visits include:

  • The Process of How a Book is Created
  • Breaking the Myth of “but I am not creative”
  • Writing Poetry
  • Ways to Develop Characters and Dialogue

Visits are tailored to meet the specific needs of the hosting educational setting, interests and ages of children.

Book Talks for When Sarah Laughed

  • Finalist for the 2014 National Jewish Book Award for a children’s picture book
  • For students from elementary through high school
  • Geared toward synagogues, churches and day schools
  • An author reading and discussion of When Sarah Laughed in classrooms or large school groups

Visits are tailored to meet the specific needs of the setting and the interests and ages of students. 10% of the cost of books sold will be contributed to the hosting setting.
